Over 112 years ago on April 15, 1912, the majestic and perceived unsinkable ship, Titanic, sank in the North Atlantic Ocean near newfoundland, Canada after striking an iceberg on her maiden voyage from South Hampton, England to New York. Of her estimated 2200 plus passengers and crew, more than 1500 perished.
Fast forward some 73 years to 1985, it was oceanographer and explorer, Robert Ballard, and his team who found Titanic some 2.5 miles beneath the waters. Since that time, many others have conducted explorations of Titanic for things from research to recovery.
If you’ve never been to any of the Titanic Exhibits held around the world, allow us to show you one currently being held in Atlanta, Georgia. Each exhibit shows several similar items recovered from the wreck such as dishes and glassware but also displays unique items as well such as the massive Ship’s Wheel and a Deck Chair. These and many other artifacts are just a glimpse of what you’ll see today – so join us, won’t you? Right here on History and Relics.
