A Visit to Civil War Site Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island, Alabama

A Visit to Civil War Site Fort Gaines on Dauphin Island, Alabama

That’s right, we’re checking out this great historic civil war site today.

Fort Gaines was established 200 years ago in 1821. It has seen and been through a lot since then but is best known for its role in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. That battle is also where Union Rear Admiral David Farragut shouted his most famous order while fighting aboard the USS Hartford, “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!” A remnant of the USS Hartford can be seen at Fort Gaines as well as the original cannons that surround the Fort, a blacksmith shop, kitchens, a museum, and tunnels.

So come and join in on all adventure and wonderful sites! There is lots to see and learn!
