Let’s climb aboard and take a tour of one of the most famous WWII Battleships that remains today – the U.S.S. Alabama. “The Mighty A” as she is known was involved in some major combat during World War II but was victorious in all her efforts and never suffered any casualties or significant damage due to enemy fire in her 218,000 miles of travels.
But she just wasn’t awarded 9 Battle Stars by herself – she had the help, courage, and strength of 2500 crew members and one of those most famous shipmates was none other than Cleveland Indians pitcher and Baseball Hall of Fame and Bob Feller. Bob was the first major leaguer and athlete to enlist in the armed services to do his part in the War effort.
We start of today’s story with the telling of Bob Feller’s which transitions into the story of the USS Alabama and finally we take a tour of the battleship that is currently located in Mobile, Alabama at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.
There is lots to see and learn so come along with us matey!
